The Social Studies curriculum for 8th Grade is US History from the Civil War to the Present. Ninth Grade covers Global History from the Ancient Civilizations to the Renaissance and Tenth Grade covers from the Renaissance to modern times. All students study how to analyze political cartoons, look at photos of the time and draw their own cocnclusions about why events happened the way they did. Students take various quizzes throughout the year, apart from chapter tests. They have the opportunity to do projects throughout the year on subtopics we do not go into depth in class. Homework is every night and is graded. The object for the Eighth and Ninth Grade is to challenge the students and develop their analytical skills, not just feed them information about events. Discussions and debates are always welcome and students look forward to them. The objective for the Tenth Grade is to prepare students for the Regent's Exam in Social Studies.
